Prism Break
Prism Break was captured late one afternoon at Caves Beach after I’d been standing there scanning the ocean, hoping for one last bit of movement before the light disappeared. Out of nowhere, a humpback surfaced with her calf close beside her, and within seconds she launched into a full breach. I got the drone up as quickly as I could, not knowing if I’d even catch it in time, just hoping for something special. From above, the impact sent white water exploding across the surface and, for a brief moment, a soft rainbow formed in the spray, a split second where raw power, motherhood and light all came together in a way that felt almost unreal.
